Landscaping Bids

Landscaping Bids

Agreed that making a patio, lawn or a front yard landscape on your own can be a very satisfying task, but if you are looking at saving time and getting a highly professional job done, you can choose a landscape contractor to do your job. You must speak with several contractors and get multiple landscaping bids to choose from. This gives you a lot of options and you can try to get what you really want. However, when you get several landscaping bids, there are certain points that you must look for.

These are the most important things that you must look at before finalizing landscaping bids.

1. Check the Reputation of the Contractor

This is one of the first things you must do. Background checks are important. Things that you must look at include the size of their company, the kind of work they have done, the number of years since they have been in operation, etc. You can ask them for references and then verify them. It is strongly advised that you ask to see some of the previous work they have done so that you get a fair idea of what they are capable of. You will be able to see if their work is merely structural or if they do use some ingenuity and creativity in their plans.

2. Have Some Appointments with them

Before finalizing a gardening architect or a contractor, it is advisable to have some preliminary meetings with them. Discuss with them about your front yard or patio and tell them what you are looking for. Tell them if you have some special requirements of drainage, lighting, planting, swimming pool, etc. This is more of an analytical talk, because the answers that the contractor gives must act as a measure for deciding whether you want to go ahead with them or not.

3. See whether they have a Landscaping License

In most states now, house landscaping has become regularized. There are now rules and norms that this industry needs to follow, and in order to ensure that they do that, they are given licenses. It is strongly suggested that you find out whether a landscaping license is needed in your state or not and if so, check whether the landscaping bid you are looking at will be accompanied by a suitable license or not.

4. See whether they carry Insurance

Insurance is another of the necessaries. When the landscape contractor has insurance, you are protected against unforeseen problems. Make sure you insist on it, even though it will make the quote a bit higher.

5. Check their Pricing

There is great variety in the way landscaping bids are made. You might be tempted to go for the low priced ones, but make absolutely sure that they fit the bill. Check their past work and see if they carry insurance.

6. Check out their Initial Plans

Some companies will offer to give you a few landscaping plans as a kind of trial so that you can look into them and decide whether you want to go ahead with them or not. These plans can tell you a lot. But looking at the way how they have designed the gardens, the grass and the pond landscape if any and placed the flower plants and the bushes, you can see whether you will get from them what you like or not.

You will get several landscaping bids once you begin looking for them. But take your time deciding among them if you want your landscape to really be worth the money you are spending on it.
